Looking to teach but lacking the minimum GCSEs?

It is important to discuss any lack of minimum entry requirements with the appropriate course provider. Other qualifications may well be acceptable, if they contain English and mathematics (and science for primary entry). For example, an Access Course where English/mathematics/science have been approved as GCSE equivalents. A Grade B is normally 12 OCN Level 2 and 3 OCN level 3 credits in each subject.

Some course providers offer you the opportunity to sit a GCSE equivalency test if you are applying to train as a secondary school teacher.

Alternatively, consider undertaking a part-time GCSE or Open Access course at a local Further Education College.

The South West Wales Centre of Teacher Education (SWWCTE) currently accept any of the UCET-agreed equivalency qualifications and recognise higher tier awards made by www.equivalencytesting.com as equivalent to a B grade in mathematics and English language.

The South East Wales Centre for Teacher Education and Training (SEWCTET) currently accept any of the UCET-agreed equivalency qualifications and offer further study opportunities for those who already have a grade C. Click here for further information.
